THE SQUE

So The Sque was a one-off played with my former band members, Brian Felix on keyboards and Ilya Stemkovsky on the drums. I had left the band "OM trio" in September of 2000 to pursue the ministry. I had previously recorded three albums with these guys and gigged extensively. They were in town for a few days while on the road and we booked this gig. What is funny is that I had never been late to gig before in my life until this one. I had the opportunity to share the Word of God at Campus Crusade for Christ at Rutgers University that night and showed up for the gig 45 minutes late! I have often enjoyed listening to this live show simply because of its spontenaity. We hadn't played together in over 3 years and we had all changed in that time. But I hope that you will enjoy the freshness, the looseness, and sometimes, the utter absurdity of the the music.

THE FUSCO - LIVE @ TUVA

The Fusco (only named so because we only played one gig) was born out of a great gig at the Cobalt Tavern in North Beach, San Fransisco. I was called last minute to fill in playing upright bass with these musicians that I didn't know. I went to the gig and within the first 5 choruses of playing a blues, Matt, Jon, and I were out in improv land. So we later decided to work on some original music.

So while I was the assistant pastor at CC Marin, I would have Matt and drummer Kevin Stevens come over to the loft at the Chapel on Monday's and rehearse. We just wrote songs too complicated to play live and jammed for about 7 months. Then I felt the Lord leading me to move back to New Jersey and plant CC New Brunswick. So we decided that we would play a gig to show off the music that we had created. So we booked a gig at the TUVA space in Berkeley. Wouldn't you know it though that the day of the gig Kevin's wife went into labor and had a baby. So we called up Jon and asked him to fill in. He had to sight read (for the most part) these crazy songs that it took us 7 months to try and play correctly. But he's a pro and you will hear that instantly. We gave Jon an hour crash course on the tunes and played the gig in front of a whopping 15 people. Matt Heulitt is a truly gifted and creative guitarist. Ilya Stemkovsky said that he is a mix between David "The Fuze" Fuizynski and Yngwie Malmsteen (spellings?). That may be true, but he just sounds like Matt Heulitt to me. But as you will hear, we were doing it for music. I hope you enjoy it.

The Brad Niven Trio was a fun group to play with. Brad is the leader on piano with Mark Bernfield on the drums. We would play together regularly at the Cobalt, which has been renamed (back to it's original name) the Washington Square Bar and Grill there in North Beach, San Fransisco. There is a lot of chemistry and spirit in this trio so please take the time to enjoy it.
